June 26, 2012

Here is the Monday, June 25th, 2012 edition “All Things Fantasy”. Jeff Erickson from rotowire.com stop by to talk some fantasy baseball. We talk about the recent prospect call ups, some closer situations, and much more. Also, I talk some fantasy football and the best way to optimize your bench. Here are my notes from the show and check out the article I wrote for FantasyPPR http://fantasyppr.com/2012/06/26/optimizing-your-bench/.

Here are my notes from the show

Wil Myers C,

Chris Nelson 2B, 3B Col (ESPN 10%)- in his last 11 games he has 7 runs, 3 HR, 10 RBIs and a great .350 BA. Really like this guy going forward. hes going to get a lot of PT with TULO hurt and has been recently.

Cody Ross OF, Bos (55%)- has been tearing the cover off the ball since his return from the DL. In the 6 games he has played since returning he has 5 runs, 3 HRs, 10 RBIs, and has gone 7/22 .318 BA. PT is no longer an issue with youklis traded. This guy has  a lot of power and will get RBIs, but his average is nothing great.

Quintin Berry OF, DET (9.3%)- in his last 6 games he has started he has gone 9/23 with 4 runs, 1 HR, 4 rbi and 3 SB. He is a speedster who bats atop the Tigers lineup. He should continue to see plenty of playing time and will contribute in SBs and runs. He did hit his first career homerun so don’t expect him to hit many more. He also has a .396 OBP on the season

Salvador Perez C, KC (6%)- already has a HR this season. Is a great addition for any fantasy team. this guy can hit for average and will get plenty of RBIs and the occasional bombski

Leonys Martin OF, TEX- hes more of a watchlist player

Jon Jay OF, STL-(31.5%) has a good hitter, can contribute all around including SBs.

Trevor Bauer SP, ARIZ

Ross Detwiler SP, RP WSH (12.4%)- recently became a starter again for the Nationals and had a solid outing as he went 5 inngs, 3 Ks, 0 ERs and gave up 4 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings, Look for him to put up similar numbers. He wont go long innings but will be sharp in the innings he pitches

Jose Quintana SP, RP CHI WS (21%)-  his stats the last 3 starts have been nothing pure greatness. He has pitched 21. 1/3 innings, striking out 14 while compiling a 0.42 ERA ( 1ER) and a 0.98 WHIP. He does go against the Yankees this week but he still can picked up. He hasnt walked a batter in last 3 starts.

Bobby Parnell RP, NYM (14.3%)- Is now the closer for the Mets and should be able to get some saves. This is more of a stop-gap but if your desperate for saves look no further than this guy.

Jair Jurrjens SP, ATL (11%)- in his first start back from the DL he pitched awesomely going 7 2/3 innings striking out 4 and only giving up 3 hits and 1 walk. He got the W.

” All Things Fantasy” (6-18-12)

June 19, 2012

This is the Monday June18th, 2012 edition of  “All Things Fantasy”. Jeff Erickson from Rotowire.com comes on the show to talk Fantasy Baseball. Also, i give my top 5 QBs for the upcoming Fantasy Football season. My notes from the show are below.

Adds:

Coco Crisp OF, Oak- (27%) This is mainly for Roto leagues. Crisp can get stolen bases in a heartbeat. He struggled mightly at the beginning of the season but has turned it around in the last 15 days he has 5 runs, 1 HR, 8 RBIs, 3SBs and a .354 OBP

Brandon Belt 1B, OF SF- (18.6%)- has been on fire recently, he has a 6 game hitting streak in which he is 8 for 20 with 4 runs, 3 HRs, 7 RBIS, & a cool .500 OBP. He is finally getting everyday at bats and for a such a big prospect like him, that makes a big difference. He should be picked up most leagues.

Trevor Cahill SP, Ariz- (ESPN 33%)- Has been down right Sensational in his last 3 starts as he has 3 wins (All QS) hes gone 23.1 Innings, w/ 20 Ks, 0.77 ERA & 1.03 WHIP

Salvadore Perez C, KC (2%)- He is coming the DL and could be a solid contributor for any Fantasy team. This guy was  a huge pre season sleeper and now is about to return from injury

Scott Podsednik OF, BOS- the crafty veteran has been a savior for Boston, he did just get hurt so some cause for concern but he has 6 SB on the season w/ a .406 OBP

Pedro Alvarez 3B, PIT (8.3%)- Has 4 Homeruns in 2 days w/ 9 RBIS. Get him whiles he hot. B/c he goes on streaks where he hits bombs, then streaks where he does nothing. There was a streak at end of April into May where he hit 5 bombskis in 9 games

Ike Davis 1B, NYM- A popular late round pick has disappointed all season, UNTIL NOW..In his last 6 games he is 9/20 with 5 runs, 1 HR, 6 RBIS, a ridiculous .542 OBP and currently has an 8 game hitting streak

Glen Perkins RP, Min (.6%)- Seems like he is going to the closer for Minnesota

NFL

top 5 QBS for the 2012 season

5. Cam Newton/ Michael Vick. If I thought Vick could be healthy through a 16 game season the He would be ahead of Cam the Man. Cam was tied for 3rd with Tom Brady in scoring for QBs last year, but a lot of that has to do with his running ability as he had 14 rushing TDs which was 2nd most in the NFL ( Lesean Mccoy had 17) and 700 rushing yards. I don’t see the how he can match the Rushing TD total but he is all around a great fantasy QB.

4. Mathew Stafford- Has the Best WR on his team and he threw for over 5000 yds last year which was 3rd best in the NFL and his 41 TDs were 3rd most in the NFL to. This guy has all the tools of an elite level QB

3. Aaron Rodgers- That’s right I don’t believe he will finish as the top QB this year for a couple of reason his 4,643 PYDs was 5th most in the NFL and only about had about 20 more yards than Philip Rivers. He had 2 of his worst games in weeks 14-15.

2.  Drew Brees- had an NFL Record of 5,476 Passing yards with 46 TDS. Was right there with Rodgers with the most points for a QB and I think he will be right there at the again this year.He threw for almost 900 more yards than Rodgers did last year. The only difference is Rodgers had 3 Rushing TDs and 200 more rushing yards. This a contract year and I think he will be awesome again

1. Tom Brady- That’s right, Brady is going to be the best fantasy QB this year and a lot has to do with the receiving core around him. This could be the best bunch of WRs/ TE has ever played with. When you have 4 Legit guys to throw to the defense has no way of guarding all these guys. He had 39TDS this year and I think he easily surpasses that and gets close to his 50 TDs he threw in 2007. He had an unreal 5,235 passing YDs add in the TDS and you got the BEST FANTASY QB

All Things Fantasy (6-11-12)

June 13, 2012

This is Monday, June 11th, 2012 edition of  “All Things Fantasy” where I talk about players you should pickup for Fantasy Baseball and some 2 week starters for next week. Also, I give 5 overrated and 5 underrated Wide Receivers for this upcoming fantasy football season. My notes from the show are listed below.

Pickups

Ben Revere (8%) OF, Min- is back to getting Regular ABs for Minnesota and is making the most of it. in his last 6 games  he has a .458 BA w/ 6 runs, 3 RBI, and 4 SBs. SBs is why this guy is in the lineup and if your in need of SBs.

Brett Wallace 1B, HOU- Just got called up this past week and has made the most of it as he is batting .400 w 5 XBHs,7 runs, 2 HR, and 4 RBI. this is one of the Astros top prospects and could provide some good pop. I just picked him up b/c I think he can produce and is going to get every chance to produce.

Gabby Sanchez 1B, MIA (23.4%) – Just got recalled from AAA and inserted right back in the starting lineup. I like what this guy brings and hit .310 w a .494 OBP at triple A. He could be a reliable fantasy player from here on out.

Michael Sanders OF, SEA (40%, up 35%)- brings that Rare Combo of speed and power. His numbers don’t look amazing as he has 6 HRs, and 9 SBs on the season, But he is batting .420 in his last 12 games with 2 HRs, 9 runs, 6 RBIs, and 2 SBS. He is a low end option but an option none the less.

Trevor Plouffe (13.3%)SS, 3B, OF, Min- is on fire recently, in his last 10 games the guy is has a .359 Bam 8 runs, 5 HR, and 10 RBIS. I like this guys staying power and I believe in his hot streak, plus you add all the positions he is eligible for and it makes him a solid pickup

Brandon League (61.2%) CL, SEA- League lost his closer role earlier this season, but I have read numerous reports that SEA is going to put this guy back in the closer role soon. Will he produce? I dunno, but he will be inline for saves and that’s what makes him a solid pickup.

Ubaldo Jimenez( 50%)- looks whos back in consideration, Ubaldo has had back2 back against STL and DET 2 good offenses, has combined 13.2 /3 innings, 10 hits, 2 ERS, 11 KS, and only 1 walk. this could be a great turning points for him and his next start is sat vs PIT who is one of the worst offensive teams in the league

Ryan Cook- I have been preaching about this guy for last couple of weeks and Im pretty sure the As have heard me bc they finally have gone to the dreaded Closer by Committee. I think its more between him and Grant Balfour and Cook has been the best pitcher in As bullpen so far this season

Scott Diamond ( 32.6%)P, MIN- vs PHI,- where did this guy come from??

Hiroki Kuroda 62% SP, Yank- has been flat out AWESOME in his last starts as he has combined for 22 IP, 2 wins, 2 ERs, 0.62 Whip and 14 Ks over those 3 games. His next game is @ ATL and I think Kuroda could be a great pitcher the rest of the season

Underrrated

Stevie Johnson- has had back 2 back season with over 1000 receiving Yards and 7 or more tds.. the only other WRs that can say that are Roddy white, Calvin Johnson, Mike Wallace, hakeem Nicks Marques Colston-

Antonio Brown- was 13th among WR with 1108 Receiving yards but only 2 TDS last year. I look for both of those numbers to improve. If he get 7-9 TDS this year then we are talking a top 15 WR.

Eric Decker-

Malcolm Floyd/ Robert Meachem- New WRs for the Chargers

Torrey Smith- Hes the Ravens deep threat, he has worked this offseason to improve his work ethic and want to “dominate”. I think this guy has major potential and has another WR in Aquan Boldin beside him/

Overrated

Wes Welker- was 3rd  in points for a WR last year, but there are some major Red Flags going into this year that would steer me away from him.  He had 9 TDs last year which was tied for 4th most in the league, but he only 3 from week 7 and on and 2 of those came in one game. They added Brandon Llyod and Jabar gaffney. Plus their 2 really good TEs and I Just don’t see the same production this year as he had last year.

Laurent Robinson- Being on the Jags

Vincent Jackson- was tied for 9th w/ Mike Wallace in fantasy points for a WR. Hes going to Tampa Bay whos QB isn’t as good as Philip Rivers, last year stats are very misleading for Jackson he had only 6 games of double digit scoring including 3 monstrous games that yielded him  29,32,and 22 FPS=83 points which is basically half of his points he scored all season. He had 8 games of scoring 5 fantasy points or less. Now, he is with a QB who isn’t as good. I just don’t see him being a top 10 or even top 20 WR this year.

Santanio Holmes- Names draw a lot of attention, bbut his QBs are brutal

Andre Johnson- not what he used to be, Injury Prone missed 9 games last year, and 3 the year before., Texans throwing the ball less

“All Things Fantasy” (6-4-12)

June 5, 2012

This is the Monday June 4th, 2012 edition of “All Things Fantasy” . Jeff Erickson, Senior editor of Rotowire.com, comes on the show to talk about closer situations, some hot pitchers, prospects to watch, and more. Also, start my 5 Fantasy football facts for the upcoming season. Here are my notes from the show.   “All Things Fantasy”

2 week starters

Last week got Scott Diamond right with 13 innings pitched 1 Win, 2 QS,35 points in CBS standard league scoring., Bronson Arroyo struggled as he had 2 loses and Travis wood had 1 good start and1 bad start that netted him 16 fantasy points for the week.

Not a lot to chose from next week when it comes to 2 start pitchers. So I went with guys who have good matchups.

Wei- Yin Chen SP, BAL- vs PIT, @ ATL goes against Pitsburgh

Clayton Richard SP, SD- @SEA, @OAK

Blake Beavan  vs SD, vs SFG

Adds

Gordon Beckham (36.6%)- has been on tear recently as he has 3 homeruns, 8 rbis, and a 310 BA in his last 6 games. Beckham was huge prospect and is finally hitting. I don/t see him being this good all year but could be really good this week

Daniel Nava (22.6%)-

Quintin Berry ( 21.6%)- is Fast, that’s all you need to know. HA but really he is filling for Austin Jackson and in 12 games this season he has scored 11 runs, stolen 6 bases, and is batting .333 w 5 xbh. He could be a cheap source of steals until Jackson comes back

Stephen Drew (15%) SS, ARIZ- should return to the D-Backs in about 2 weeks and will be a great edition to fantasy lineups. While I do expect him to start off slow and a couple of extra off days. I think he could have a huge impact the once he comes back. If your desperate for a SS and can wait another 2 weeks then pick him up before someone else does.

Kirk Nieuwenhius (10.2%) OF, NYM- has been hitting all season with his .301 BA, has 19 rbis, 31 runs, 3 HR/SB. He could provide a great BA and score some runs. He is getting PT in outfield. Also, Jason Bay will return soon so keep a flyer on him.

Carlos Zambrano (61.6%)- BIG Z should be owned in almost every league. BTW never thought I would say that. He has won his last 2 starts. He has a 2.81 ERA and 1.11 WHIP and if you take away his last start where he gave up 7 runs then it would be a lot lower as he hasn’t giving up more than 3 ERs in anystart besides that one. Infact he has given up 1 ER or less in 6 of 10 starts

Casey Jansen ( 51%) has been the closer for the Blue Jays and has secured 5 saves since becoming the man in Toronto.

Matt Harrison (36%) has been sensational his 3 starts, All wins, granted 2 were against SEAttle . His next start is Friday vs San Fran. He has pitched 21.2 innings in his last 3 starts ( all Wins) with 14 ks and a 2.49 ERA and 1.11 WHIP

Brian Matusz (6%) has won 4 of his last 5 starts and hasn’t allowed more than 3 ER in any of those starts. he has beaten the rays twice and Red Sox once in 4 of those wins. has 21Ks in his 19 2/3 innings. with a 2.29 ERA and miniscule 0.92 WHIP.

Brandon McCarthy- is back from injury and already picked up a win against KC. His next start is against Texas so I wouldn’t start him then but He is definitely worth a pick up . There is a reason he owned in 63.4% of ESPN leagues

5 Fantasy football facts for next season

5. Don’t draft rookies- Football is the hardest sport to make the adjustment to. RG3 will be a lot better in fantasy than Luck, Trent Richardson will be great but will it be this year and people are already taking him to high. A.J. Green and Julio Jones where the best rookies WRs and those where 2 prominent guys in college. Cam Newton had a ridic year last year. Demarco Murray was the Best rookie RB last year and still didn’t finish in the top 30 in points last year of RBS.

4. Best RB is in the Eye of the beholder as Ray Rice had the most Fantasy points for a RB but Foster or Mccoy could be taken ahead of him. Guys like Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles could be bounce back candidates. I am staying away from Matt Forte and Adrian Peterson.

3. WR is All Megatrons- next closest player is wes welker with 71 points less than Calvin. Roddy white isn’t going to be the best WR on his team. Same goes for Greg Jennings and Mike Wallace,

2. TE position falls drastically after 1st 2 Gronkowsi( 232 pts) and Jimmy graham (187). Next is Aaron Hernandez with 123 and there are about 8-9 guys who are all withing 25 points of each other

1.QB position is DEEP, While this is obvious It has to be pointed out b/c guys brees and Rodgers are taken so high and You can wait on a great QB who will put up huge numbers, Like either manning a total of around 8 Elite level fantasy QBs.
